Cheapfax is on the App Store
Cheapfax is on the App Store. You can download it here.
It does one thing. You send a document to a fax number in the US or Canada and pay by the page. Nothing recurs, and there's no trial counting down to a monthly charge.
What a page costs
Fifty cents. Actually, due to Apple's rules, the last page of any purchase is 49¢, so the totals land a penny under: one page is $0.49, five pages $2.49, ten pages $4.99. You end up paying slightly less than the sticker rate, which seemed like the right direction to round. You can also buy credits for future use. One credit is used when sending one page and if you end up with extra credits, you keep that balance and it does not expire.
Sending one
Add your document by scanning it with the camera, picking a PDF out of Files, or sharing one from another app. Cheapfax counts the pages and shows you the total up front, before you spend any money.
You can attach a cover sheet, and there are two of them. The Modern one is clean and typographic. The Traditional one is the Times New Roman memorandum layout that a title company or a doctor's office will recognize on sight. Both take a short message. The cover counts as a page, so a five-page lease with a cover is six pages, $2.99.
Recipients you fax more than once can be saved to an address book so you don't retype the number.
A failed fax refunds itself
Fax lines are old infrastructure and they fail: a busy signal, a dead number, a machine nobody has plugged in since 2019. When that happens Cheapfax puts the pages straight back on your balance and tells you what went wrong. You're only charged for pages that successfully send.
When a fax is successfully sent, your phone tells you, and you get a receipt you can save showing the number you sent to and when it went through.
Your documents don't stick around
Apple handles every payment, so your card number never reaches us. Documents upload over an encrypted connection, and we delete them from our servers 30 days after you send. You can delete your account from inside the app, which deletes the documents and the history with it.
I built this because I need to fax about twice a year. If that's your situation too, the app is free to download. Sending costs 50¢ a page, to any fax number in the United States or Canada.
