Scan paper documents with your phone camera. The app crops and straightens each page. You can also import a PDF from Files, choose an image from Photos, or share a document to Cheapfax from another app.

See the price before you pay

Review the page count and total cost, including any cover sheet, before you confirm. The app uses your existing credit first. If you need more, you can buy the remaining amount through Apple or Google.

Add a cover sheet

Choose a template and fill in the sender, recipient, subject, and message. A cover sheet is optional and costs 50¢, just like any other page.

Check the sending progress

See how many pages have sent and whether the app is retrying a busy line. You can close the app while you wait. A notification will let you know whether the fax was delivered.

Save your delivery receipt

After delivery, save or share a PDF receipt with the recipient’s fax number, page count, and delivery time. If the fax fails, the credit returns to your balance automatically. Both delivered and failed faxes appear in your history.

How much does it cost to send a fax?+

Each page costs 50¢, so a five-page fax costs $2.50. The app shows the total before you pay. There’s no monthly fee or minimum spend.

How long does a fax take to send?+

Usually 1 to 3 minutes. Longer documents take more time, and a busy or unanswered line can extend the wait to around 20 minutes. You’ll get a notification when your fax is delivered or if it fails.

Do I need Wi-Fi to send a fax?+

Wi-Fi or cellular data both work. You just need an internet connection on your phone; no phone line or fax machine is required.

What file types can I fax?+

PDF, JPEG, PNG, and HEIC, up to 25 MB and 50 pages per fax. Scan with the camera, import from Files or Photos, or share a PDF straight from another app. You can add a cover sheet, which counts as a page.

Is there a subscription?+

No. You buy credit through Apple or Google and use it to send faxes. There are no recurring charges, and unused credit never expires.

Can I send a fax from your phone without a fax machine?+

Yes. Scan your pages or choose a file, enter the recipient’s fax number, and send it through Cheapfax.

Can I receive faxes with it?+

No. Cheapfax only sends faxes. It doesn’t provide a fax number for receiving them.

Can I fax medical records or HIPAA forms?+

You can send them the same as any other document. Documents upload over an encrypted connection, stay private to your account, and are deleted 30 days after sending. Cheapfax is not a HIPAA-compliant service and does not sign a business associate agreement, so if you are a covered entity, check with whoever handles compliance first.

How much does it cost to fax at a UPS Store?+

Prices vary by location, so check with your local UPS Store for a quote. With Cheapfax, a five-page fax costs $2.50.

Can I fax for free?+

Cheapfax is free to download, but sending costs 50¢ per page. We don’t add advertising to your fax.

What if a fax doesn't go through?+

If a transmission fails, we refund it to your balance automatically. You're only charged for pages that actually send.

Do my credits expire?+

No. Unused credit stays in your balance until you need it.

Do I get proof the fax arrived?+

Yes. You can save or share a PDF delivery receipt from the app. It includes the recipient’s fax number, page count, and delivery time.
